HIV/AIDS & YOUNG PEOPLE

Of the estimated 1.2 billion young people in the world, 85% live in developing countries. In South Africa, there are currently about 18 million people under the age of 20 years. These people account for approximately 40% of the total population.

For the majority of young South Africans, sexual activity starts in the mid to late teens. However, adolescent knowledge of reproductive function and sexuality is generally poor

Approximately 11 million episodes of STIs occur each year in South Africa, with more than half amongst adolescents and young adults. There are many reasons for these statistics. Apart from physical vulnerability, adolescents are very susceptible to peer pressure, have a tendency to engage in risk-taking behaviour, are less able to negotiate safe sex practices and have difficulties accessing health information and services.

One in ten 15 – 24 year old South Africans is HIV positive, 77% of these are amongst women.

These young people in RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES come to these institutions having experienced or being exposed to a number of challenging problems which perpetuate their vulnerability, including HIV and AIDS.

How colleagues what can we really do to change the behaviour of our youths especailly as they are the leaders of tommorrow.

Telephone interview with Tearfund

I had a telephone interview with Tearfund Christian organisation for almost an hour. this is a position based in Southern Darfur. You might then ask like was done at interview- Why do you think you are the right person for this job? Obviously I marketed myself - somthing like this -----I am a skilled, knowledgeable individual possessing demonstrated abilities to capacitate the most vulnerable people in Sudan........ hey i just felt the interview was very positive indeed.
What do you think of me going to Sudan? By the way I am not just going there for leisure, but assisting the most vulnerable people who require my humanitarian contribution ...

BirthDay celebrated While on asignment

On the 3rd January 2008 I celebrated my birthday whilst I was on an assignment in Limpopo Province at one of the Further Education and Training Colleges.
Howev er i would like to take this opportune time to thank first my family members beginning with my Mother Esther Shure for all she made me to be who I am today, I would also want to extend my gratitude to my dearest and lovinf wife Gladys Nyemudzai Maigurira ( Kanemagezo) who sent me the most loving message that i have not received from anyone. And lastly to all my friends around the globe. Don;t you worry I may not mention you by name now but only to send my many millions of blessings to you from the almighty who will surely bless all of us.
